ChessZen is committed to providing quality services to you and this policy outlines our ongoing obligations to you in respect of how we manage your Personal Information.
We have adopted the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act). The APPs govern the way in which we collect, use, disclose, store, secure and dispose of your Personal Information.
A copy of the Australian Privacy Principles may be obtained from the website of The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at https://www.oaic.gov.au/.
Personal Information is information or an opinion that identifies an individual. Examples of Personal Information we may collect include names, email addresses and other account details you choose to provide.
This Personal Information is obtained in many ways including via the ChessZen app and website, from limited technical diagnostics, and from third parties where required to operate the service. We do not guarantee website links or the policies of authorised third parties.
We collect your Personal Information for the primary purpose of providing the ChessZen service to you, including authenticating your account, restoring your settings, providing support, maintaining security and improving the app. We do not sell your Personal Information. We may use trusted service providers to help us operate and improve the service.
When we collect Personal Information we will, where appropriate and where possible, explain to you why we are collecting the information and how we plan to use it.
Usage data and in-app statistics are primarily used to generate insights inside ChessZen and to help us understand, maintain and improve the service. Blocking preferences and related setup data are used to run the app experience you choose and support related product functionality.
Where platform restrictions apply, we may receive anonymized, limited, partially obscured or otherwise unreadable identifiers for blocked apps, categories or related selections rather than a full readable list of your chosen apps.
If you continue without creating an account, we may use an anonymous or guest session so the app can operate without requiring signup first.
We may collect analytics, usage, crash and performance data to help us maintain, secure and improve the app. Depending on the feature or service provider used, this data may be aggregated, de-identified, pseudonymized or linked to an app session, device or account where reasonably necessary to operate and improve ChessZen. This data is not sold.
ChessZen offers an optional auto-renewable subscription (ChessZen Premium). All payments are processed securely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment card details or billing information at any time.
When you subscribe, Apple provides us with a subscription receipt to verify your entitlement. We use this only to unlock Premium features within the app. Subscription status may be stored locally on your device to restore access on relaunch.
If you use the accountability feature and choose to provide a contact's name and email address or phone number, that information is transmitted to our servers solely for the purpose of sending the consent request and notifications you have configured. We do not use this information for marketing or share it with third parties beyond the delivery service required to send those messages.
Sensitive information is defined in the Privacy Act to include information or opinion about such things as an individual's racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious or philosophical beliefs, membership of a trade union or other professional body, criminal record or health information.
Sensitive information will be used by us only:
Where reasonable and practicable to do so, we will collect your Personal Information only from you. However, in some circumstances we may be provided with information by third parties. In such a case we will take reasonable steps to ensure that you are made aware of the information provided to us by the third party.
Your Personal Information may be disclosed only in limited circumstances, including the following:
Your Personal Information is stored in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse and loss and from unauthorized access, modification or disclosure.
When your Personal Information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was obtained, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify your Personal Information. Some records may be retained where required by law or for legitimate operational purposes.
You may access the Personal Information we hold about you and update and/or correct it, subject to certain exceptions. If you wish to access your Personal Information, please contact us in writing.
ChessZen will not charge any fee for your access request, but may charge an administrative fee for providing a copy of your Personal Information.
In order to protect your Personal Information we may require identification from you before releasing the requested information.
It is important to us that your Personal Information is up to date. We will take reasonable steps to make sure that your Personal Information is accurate, complete and up to date. If you find that the information we have is not up to date or is inaccurate, please advise us as soon as practicable so we can update our records and ensure we can continue to provide quality services to you.
This Policy may change from time to time and is available on our website at https://chess-blocker.vercel.app/privacy.
